China Eastern positions Loss Amid Crisis

Feeling the harsh issues of the Asian economic crisis, China Eastern
Airlines supported a loss of 33.2 million yuan (US$4 million) for the
first six month of 1998 The los was down dramatically from a 306
million yuan (US$37 million) profit during the same period last year.

The carrier attributed the los to regional money; aggregate of coin depreciation,

surplus capacity and constraining force to discount tickets. The sight for
the
